Kikyz1313's pieces mainly encompass unaware, naive children to contrast human’s cruel natures. According to her, the infants serve as martyrs to worldly agonies, portraying the flaws of society through their purity and innocence. Mexican cultures also influenced Kikyz1313 heavily as they give her more extensive insights and different perspectives into human's inevitable fate -- mortality.

Explorations as an Artist

ink - graphite - oil paint

Unsatisfied with the inadequate art education of her college, Kikya1313 took it upon herself and decided to explore various media while trying to cast light upon the dark sides of humanity.

She first started off with ink and watercolor; the majority of her works were created through these media. They are very stylistic and recognizable: the dim tones contrast with the defined, dark-inked lines, constructing surreal imagery.

However, she felt that ink and watercolor made harsh topics such as death and disease “too digestible to the audiences”. Unfulfilled with her current works, she desired to create pieces that are more vivid, more realistic, and more poignant so that their audiences can experience more immersive and assertive emotions. Then she started experimenting with graphite:

‘the disaster’s heiress’ · graphite, watercolor and white pastel on paper · 2014
‘zephyr nestling’ · graphite, watercolor and white pastel on paper · 2014

Having mastered graphite, she pushes herself further in the experimentation with media. Kikyz1313 moves on to (oil) painting, using vibrant colors that she had purposefully avoided in her past works.

With her exquisite artworks, Kikyz1313 depicts the world from her perspectives: a place where beauty intertwines with grotesqueness, and peacefulness exists within chaos.
